The St Finn Barr’s School Library is located upstairs in the administration building in the Discovery Centre. Students visit the Library once a week with their teacher. During library time the students, the teacher and the librarian celebrate reading and literature by engaging in read alouds. In addition, students are given the opportunity to select books of interest to take home or to the classroom, and spend time reading to self and reading to others.

Choice, voice and student participation is strongly valued in the library space. Library displays, when possible, are co-created by the librarian and students. A display that has recently involved student input is a football and soccer display. On this display among the books, a Year 5/6 class created footballers from jenga pieces; these players were then placed on a football field that was created by past students.

Prior to library time the librarian chooses 6 books for the read alouds; in library time the classes vote for the book they wish to read and hear. This practice allows students to have their voices heard. At the St Finn Barr’s Library students are strongly encouraged to borrow books on a weekly basis, these books can come from any section within the library - Non-Fiction, Graphic Novels, Fiction, Picture Books -  in which the student feels comfortable reading, on topics and by authors they enjoy.
